A subject we are all facing in the rental market of 'no pets allowed'. 

Some rentals don't allow children either!! 
 
This petition is to implore landlords and owners to be able to treat each rental as an individual case and not base one experience on future rental opportunities. 

This petition is to implore local council and government as well to make a point system where Individuals get scored on their rental behaviour, frequency of payment, pets and their behaviour. The amount of responsibility they take if there is an issue , damages caused to the property etc.

 An online system where future or potential landlords get to see the points before agreeing to those people renting their property. In this way individuals can get approved or rejected on their own behaviour and the rest of the interested parties wanting to rent said available rental don't get ' penalised ' due to previous disappointment or costly bad experiences. 

The amount of rentals in the Fishhoek and surrounding areas that are either not pet friendly or child friendly is absolutely ridiculous. The amount of families that are searching with no luck for months or even years. 

Fishhoek and surrounding areas are family friendly suburbs with children , schools , beaches and parks. A welcoming friendly environment families raise their children and have a good quality of life with the mountains and oceans on their door step. 
Over the years the rental rules and landlords have cracked down on their generosity of pets allowed in their homes they are renting out due to irresponsible pet owners who cannot fix damages caused or haven't been honest about the number of animals they own causing everyone else to suffer and not being able to rent. 

We need a system generated where a person's history is recorded online for landlords to view.
The frequency of rent paid, referrals from previous owners, any damages caused by children or pets and what was done about it. An individual system of the person's history will then be taken into account of rental success or failure. 

Currently we are all being penalised by a couple of bad experiences caused by these folks and many of us are not in the position of buying our own homes. Rental is our only options yet we sit with the dilemma of never getting any more pets or any at all due to the ' NO PETS ALLOWED '  dreaded 3 words in any property advert or social media marketing. 

TEARS is overflowing as are many dog shelters and rescue organizations. Yet us kind folk who have the resources to adopt not shop as everyone keeps telling us dare not in case of that dreaded day where we need to possibly move. 

This problem has become unbearable! Something must be done rather urgently about it. 

There are studies that prove the health benefits of owning pets, the bonding that happens and the wonderful experience a  child  has with their favourite fur friend.

The mindset needs to change urgently that all dogs will cause damage to a landlords home. Pets should be welcomed in all homes . Not all pets are badly behaved or cause damages to property. Not all people are irresponsible, and don't take action if there is any damage in any way caused to the rental they in. 

After 2020 and the emotional rollercoaster we've all been through how many of us cling onto our emotional support animal for relief of anxiety angst or depression. 
How many of us have lost a loved one ? Yet we still have a fur baby to come home to or to love which gives us hope and love.
How many of us would love to adopt another one or 2 but don't in the fear of never finding another home to rent.

This needs to end ! Animals are sentient beings and shouldn't be living in tiny cages due to the vicious circle caused! People shouldn't be avoiding giving a pet a good home due to the stress of finding a future rental. 

I implore land lords and owners to treat each tenant as an individual case and to be kinder and gentler ! 
I implore local government and ward councillors to make this a law / rule as we cannot live like this anymore! The stress of trying to find a home due to this situation is more than ridiculous ! If this system  is not available in South Africa, as it is in the USA with these particular rules , landlords and owners need to re-examine the current status we find ourselves in. 

You would never give your baby away! Why would you give your fur baby away due to needing to rent! It's happening daily as people are now desperate to find a roof over their heads. Life is stressful enough without this complication. 

We need change!! We need it today!
