We are tenants living peacefully in a residential society in Mumbai.

Recently, we were told to vacate our home—not for noise, damage, or misconduct—but simply because we have a pet.

A sudden “New Year resolution” was announced stating that pets are no longer allowed. This rule did not exist when we moved in, and pets had already been living in the society.

No notice.

No discussion.

Just fear and uncertainty.

Our pet is vaccinated, well cared for, and loved. For us, this is not just a house, it is home. Being forced to choose between shelter and family is heartbreaking.

Why this is wrong

As per Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) guidelines:

Housing societies cannot ban pets

Tenants cannot be harassed or evicted for having pets

Pets are not a nuisance by default

Compassion and law both stand against this action.

What we ask

We urge authorities and housing societies to:

Stop pet-based evictions

Respect AWBI guidelines

Allow families and their pets to live without fear

Why your support matters

Today it’s us.

Tomorrow it could be anyone.

Pets are family.

Homes should not come with cruelty.
