NYC Department of Consumer Affairs Urges Personal Care Products Council to Work with its Members to Create Products that do not Contain Toxic Ingredients
The Issue
Join with other New Yorkers to tell the Personal Care Products Council, the leading national trade association for the cosmetics industry, that the price of beauty shouldn't be your and your manicurist’s health. Urge them to lead the industry in creating safer formulations of products that do not contain ingredients that can harm customers and beauty professionals. Learn What you Need to Know about Nail Salons and read our letters to the US Food and Drug Administration and to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Many products include what’s known as the “toxic trio”:
- Formaldehyde, a hardening agent, is a known carcinogen and will be banned in the European Union (EU) next year;
- Dibutyl phthalate, that keeps polish flexible, negatively impacts the reproductive system and is banned in the EU and Australia; and
- Toluene, a solvent that helps polish go on smoothly, can negatively impact the central nervous, respiratory, and reproductive systems.
Ask the Personal Care Products Council to work with its members to remove the “toxic trio” and be part of the solution, not the problem!
