On March 15th, 2021 a small plane attempted an emergency landing by Perry airport and struck a vehicle with a woman and child inside. Upon impact the two persons inside of the plane lost their life, and the two people in the car were rushed to ER. Hours later the news did update the community as the child in the vehicle had in fact passed away. As a mother and a person who lives close by and drives down that same road almost every other day, I could not just stand by. This is not the first incident of a plane crashing in the area, as Perry airport is consistently performing flight classes. This is actually the third “emergency landing” that had to be performed just this year, and if these flight lessons and small aircraft personal flights continue I am sure there will be more to come. I grew up in the neighborhood next to Perry airport, and this has always been an ongoing concern of the surrounding neighborhoods. There are two playgrounds and several sports fields surrounding the airport, which puts even more people in danger of falling victim to a faulty lesson or emergency landing gone wrong. This airport needs to return to when it was for personal business flights and/or executive flights only. There also needs to be an upgrade in the maintenance performed on their planes, whether it is daily or right before take off. As a community we need to stand up! What takes 5 minutes to sign can save a life. Maybe even your friend or family members life. We cannot let this continue. We cannot let this child’s death be forgotten, something has to change Thank you!
