Trench coats, despite their practicality and aesthetic appeal, are currently not permitted in many public schools in New South Wales, Australia. This ban has frustrated many students who see the trench coat as a functional and stylish addition to their school uniform. It's time to reconsider this rule. In many parts of the world, trench coats are treated simply as clothing, not an indicator of potential threat or misbehavior. An analysis of school policies across different countries show no clear correlation between allowing trench coats and increased school-related incidents (Survey of International School Policies, 2017). Banning trench coats does not eliminate school threats but merely deflects attention towards superficial concerns. This ban also infringes on student rights to free expression.
