The Issue

PETITION TO REQUEST THAT MAYOR RODRIGO ROA DUTERTE BE ALLOWED TO CARRY OUT HIS DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED MANDATE AS DAVAO CITY MAYOR.

I have been a supporter of President Duterte, now Mayor of Davao, since 2016 as I believe in him and what he is trying to achieve for the Philippines. Having met him personally, I know the depth of his commitment to the Filipino people and nation and of course to the good people of Davao City. This is a cause close to my heart, and I believe that the people of Davao deserve the leadership they have voted for.

The recent election of Rodrigo Roa Duterte as Mayor of Davao City came with an overwhelming mandate from its citizens. His leadership over the years as President of the Philippines was marked by strong and decisive actions that earned him both national and international acclaim. Yet, despite his accomplishments and popularity, his ability to fulfill his mayoral duties is being hindered.

Rodrigo Duterte is currently facing legal scrutiny at the International Criminal Court (ICC) for actions during his presidency. However, it's crucial to remember that he remains innocent legally until proven otherwise. Holding him in captivity compromises not only his personal freedoms but also the democratic choice of Davao’s residents. The residents of Davao have chosen him for the leadership they trust, and denying him the opportunity to serve directly undermines their democratic rights.

The legal proceedings against Duterte shouldn't impede his mandate as the new Mayor of Davao City. Legal processes can continue without restricting his ability to serve, ensuring both due process and the political will of the people are respected.

Let us remind the ICC of the importance of these principles—justice and democracy. Upholding these values strengthens our institutions and respects the voice of the people. We must afford Duterte the chance to fulfill his obligations to Davao, recognising him as innocent until proven guilty, allowing due process to occur fairly without undue influence on the local governance that Davao's citizens have endorsed.

Join us in urging the International Criminal Court to allow Mayor Duterte to carry out his duties for the city of Davao, thereby respecting the people's decision and upholding democratic values. Please sign this petition to ensure that democracy prevails.

Please join me in signing my petition to submit to the International Criminal Court - ICC. Thank you.
