The Issue

I am a resident of Reynoldsburg, deeply affected by the soaring cost of eggs in commercial markets. My family's consumption of eggs is significant, making us heavily reliant on the egg market. As the prices continue to rise, it is becoming more challenging to afford this dietary staple.

More than that, I believe in supporting our local farmers and businesses and feel strongly that our community should have the ability to produce its own food, not solely depend on large commercial entities. Having the right to raise live poultry allows us this opportunity - to be self-reliant, to know where our food is coming from and to back local agribusiness.

Currently, Reynoldsburg laws do not permit residents to keep live poultry. This is a restriction we would like reconsidered. In the United States, backyard poultry has seen a surge in popularity over recent years. Cities including Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago, have acknowledged the benefits and legalized city chicken farming (source: National Public Radio, USA).

By raising chickens, we would not only provide for our own families but could also contribute to the local economy and food security of our neighborhoods. We urge the local legislatures to update the laws and grant us this right to self-dependence. This movement is not just about the cost of eggs, it is about fostering a stronger, more self-reliant and sustainable community in Reynoldsburg.

We, the residents of Reynoldsburg, call for your support. Please join us in this petition to allow us to raise live poultry.
