Store bought nectar and food coloring/dyes are filled with chemicals, additives,  preservatives abd petroleum based products that are slowly killing hummingbirds.  

The dyes cannot be metabolized by hummingbirds,  which lead to kidney damage,  failure and a slow and painful death. Natural flower nectar is mainly sucrose (plain white sugar) and water. 

Hummingbirds get all their nutrients and proteins from insects,  flowers, tree sap, ashes and sand.  They do not need anything but the recommended ratio of water to sugar in feeders. 4:1. 

1 cup water to 1/4 cup of white granulated sugar. 

Feeders are only a supplement to boost the hummingbird's metabolism to catch insects. 

The only reason the stuff is manufactured and sold is strictly for profit! Nothing more. 

Hummingbird rehabbers will tell you and possibly show you the effects of the dyes. Its a gruesome sight. 

Please make your own nectar if you feed hummingbirds and spread the word to people. Whether its family, friends,  neighbors or strangers. This stuff needs banned. Food coloring/dyes are not even healthy for humans, especially children and the elderly.  It causes allergies, adhd and cancers in children. 

If you won't drink store bought nectar,  then don't feed it to hummingbirds either. 

Their tiny kidneys cannot handle it!
