Boycott the 'Perfect Puppy' pet stores!
May 18, 2016
"As of this morning, Thursday, August 7, 2014, Harvey appeared to be declining. He coughed a lot last night, he hadn't drank any water for over 24 hours, he threw up a lot of mucus and some grass, and he was now refusing the canned dog food. Again, Harvey's eyes appeared to be rolling back in different directions (see video).
I called and then visited my vet, where they advised me that I had two options: either return the dog to The Perfect Puppy (which I refuse to do), or immediately go to Ocean State Veterinary Hospital "before we lose him."
I spoke to Carlos on the phone while I was waiting to see Dr.Hmelo at OSVS, and he informed me that I should go to Titan Vet because it won't cost me a dime, but Ocean State "charges a lot of money to maintain that big place" and I would get the same care at Titan. I told him that my vet referred me because they were unable to provide the necessary care for Harvey and that he could pass away.
Carlos assured me that he knew I cared for my dog, but Titan wouldn't cost a dime and he wouldn't reimburse me for Ocean State's bills. Knowing that Harvey was in such desperate condition, and in need of immediate oxygen, I was unwilling to chance driving him to Titan and taking away his only chance at surviving past 3 months. Since then, I have learned that he needs to be under 24 hour care for the next 3-5 days with a catheter, oxygen therapy, an IV, anesthesia, a tracheal wash, and undergo other testing due to the results of his chest x-rays.
There is no guarantee that Harvey will pull through this awful pneumonia and his accompanying ailments (Giardia). Nonetheless, I am far more comfortable charging the $2467.00 "deposit" on my credit card to Ocean State than I am returning him to The Perfect Puppy's “care”. I cannot afford these astronomical bills on top of his purchase price, but unlike them, I care for his actual well-being and cannot afford chancing his life under their control any longer."
Sidenote: This was written to the State Vet in 2014...Harvey did pull through. There has been ZERO follow through and ZERO accountability. We will be posting follow up statements.
