The current K-5 configuration of Hillview, North Boulevard, and Stephen J. Gerace Elementary Schools enables children in Pequannock to interact and engage with students and teachers across a range of grades and experiences. Siblings across grades can support and encourage each other, older children get experience in responsibility and leadership when interacting with younger students, and younger children have role models and champions to help them navigate unfamiliar environments and new experiences. Research shows that students in schools with shorter grade spans (for example, K-3, 4-5 as is being proposed) suffer academic set backs from transitioning so often and they under-perform compared to students in K-5 settings. Our schools are a source of pride and an added value in our community. Tell the Pequannock Board of Education and Superintendent Brett Charleston that you oppose realigning the elementary schools.
