Pollution is one of the greatest problems we are facing in today's world. Plastic floods our Earth, harming animals and contributing to the exponential growth of waste, as well as taking our natural resources for a single-use purpose and destroying our planet.

As a society, we are moving in the right direction - by replacing single-use plastic with more sustainable alternatives. But this is not enough, we can do more. Known for being the second-largest food and beverage company in the world, PepsiCo manufactures convenient foods and beverages, which contributes to our current plastic pollution problem. It is sold in stores, restaurants and vending machines in practically every country in the world.

The majority of their beverages are packaged in single-use plastics, which may represent the epitome of today's throwaway culture. Most of these single-use plastics are not properly recycled and end up in our oceans, where they eventually break down into micro-plastics - something we can not see nor taste, but are constantly consuming - and get mistaken for food by sea life. 8 million tonnes of plastic end up in the ocean each year. If we don't make a change NOW, by 2050 plastic pollution will not only increase by 500%, but there will be more plastic in our oceans than fish (Our World in Data, 2018).

Although I support PepsiCo's active sustainability program, we still need to stem the problem of single-use plastic. We have to make a shift in global ideology that single-use plastic is not an option with today's plastic crisis.

PepsiCo manufactures markets and sells an estimate of 24,657 bottles of 250ml Pepsi's alone per day (Statista, 2019). That is around 208,438 ounces of and 6.51 tonnes of plastic waste, equivalent to 12 barrels of oil. An average car uses 0.151 tonnes of plastic. The aggregation of Pepsi bottles alone across the globe in 24 hours could be manufactured into 43 cars. Think about the amount of plastic that is going to be sitting in our landfills and floating in our oceans for the next few centuries.

Action needs to be taken now. PepsiCo holds a global responsibility. We are the consumer, without us, PepsiCo will run out of business. We are what keeps them up and running, we are who they want to satisfy. So why not stand up for ourselves, for our good, and stop their plastic bottle pollution? We need to send a message that what they are doing is morally wrong.

We want YOU to help reduce the amount of plastic used in your daily life. Every plastic bottle makes a difference. PepsiCo, being one of the largest companies, still uses excessive amounts of plastic. End plastic pollution now. It only takes one minute to type in a signature, which could change the present and create the future. No money is required to sign this petition and it is open for EVERYONE to sign, regardless of your age, gender, race, or religion. This is our planet, it is our responsibility to beat plastic pollution and eliminate the use of single-use plastic bottles from PepsiCo's manufacturing facilities. There is no Planet B.

PepsiCo needs to invest in other alternatives to reduce single-use plastic. They need to introduce more effective recycling schemes, such as the use of glass bottles, paper bottles, bamboo bottles, and corn-based bottles instead of plastic which often get thrown in the trash or end up in the ocean for several hundred years. This needs to be implemented globally.

We have to stand up for our planet and send this message to PepsiCo that as consumers, we want change. We NEED change, we NEED to inspire more people to take a stand in ending plastic pollution. We NEED to work with PepsiCo to eliminate or heavily reduce their plastic bottle usage, and replace it with more sustainable alternatives so our world can flourish in a single-use plastic free environment. We do not need empty promises but action. We need that action now.

If you want to contact PepsiCo, please sign the petition with why you want to eradicate their single-use plastic bottles. We need to make ourselves heard.
