Oxford English Dictionary named the selfie as the 'word of the year', and like the opening of Pandora's box, the phenonemon has infected the entire interweb with its pernicious purposeless vanity.

Politicians think it makes them look cool (Harriet Harman, Ed Miliband I'm looking at you.. ) High profile people are suddenly made 'accessible' via the fun selfie (the Pope selfie, The Joan collins selfie.. groan) The word has been morphed and stretched to include BELFIE (a selfie of your BUTT... oh Jesus god help me) There's an oscars selfie, things that aren't selfies being called selfies, there's articles, comment pieces on selfies, there's selfies of selfies.

It was fine at first, I probably even took a selfie myself. but now... ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. THEY ARE NOT IMPORTANT. STOP SAYING SELFIE. it makes my ears curdle.
