Dogs share the same environment of humans and play an important role in their ecological adjustment. Since its domestication 12,000 to 15,000 years ago, they have been part of human evolution with increases on its population as humans settle down. Just recently, an order was made to capture and collect stray dogs in the vicinity in a bid to ensure public safety and maintain integrity of public property. The order also included ‘mercy killing’ of unclaimed stray dogs through ‘euthanasia’. This spawned local outrage in Iloilo City. Several local animal organizations expressed their protest.

Every day around the country many dogs are killed in shelters, just because they need space. Precious dogs that can still have many years to live and have a lot of love to offer. Euthanasia should be reserved only for animals who are suffering or are too aggressive to safely reside in our communities. But animals that die are so loving, and their trusting faces are just asking for love and companionship. This is barbaric. Let's do something about this cruel practice. Let's put a stop to this unnecessary murdering. We can educate the public about spaying and neutering, about adopting instead of buying, about population control. We need more shelters, so there would be enough spaces for every dog, and we need NO KILL SHELTERS. Shelters should be a temporary transition place for animals. The term shelter means to protect, not to kill. and the animals should be taken care of until they are adopted. This can be achievable.

Help me sign this petition TO STOP MERCY KILLING OF STRAY DOGS IN ILOILO and be the voice for these stray dogs who cannot speak for themselves. Let us help in giving them another chance to live a better life.
