STOP Racial Discrimination Against Indigenous Groups in the Philippines

The Issue

There is a wide range of racial discrimination against Indigenous groups in the Philippines. The situation of indigenous racial discrimination has gotten worse and we would like to change this situation in which the indigenous people are given the rights and the opportunity to defend themselves against any discrimination. There are a lot of ways to prevent this and we shall take action through public awareness, giving them the right to speak, and recognizing their role in society. Building public awareness of the racial discrimination of the indigenous people informs not only the Filipinos but the people all around the world. This public awareness gives the community the information they need so that they may be able to understand and hopefully change their actions in the situation (Young, 2016).

Most of the indigenous people don’t have the opportunity to have good quality education which makes them easy to manipulate and easily be deprived of their rights and properties. We can take action by encouraging and possibly make the government hear their perspective so that the indigenous people would be given the rights and the property to own their land (Young, 2016). When we do not hear the perspective of the other side, we often misunderstand their situation and discriminate against them without the full knowledge of the situation. This is one of the reasons why they should be given the opportunity to speak up.

Their role in society is crucial for they care and protect the environment (Young, 2016). The actions of the indigenous people prevent major issues such as global warming and climate change which is affecting the world drastically. They are able to safeguard 80% of biodiversity, save the forest and animals that could have been possibly extinct without their protection (Ijjasz-Vasquez, Gill, Duchicela, 2017).

We all should be involved in this action. Individuals of all ages should be involved and become aware of the situation in order to have a positive impact all over the world. In terms of organization, the government must hear the issues of the indigenous people who are discriminated against so that they can form a policy that gives them the right to own their land and protect themselves from any abuse. After all, everyone should be treated equally with respect for everyone has its own rights and responsibilities to defend themselves from any discrimination.
