On July 18 a couple of us met with the developer and the contractor for the Ambleside project. I asked if they would spare one tree, and they said no, not one. The permit discloses and everyone knows that there was forest on this property that contained wildlife. This is gone forever as the developer destroyed all the trees and vegetation on the property along with the wildlife. Soon, as it is scraped further, this lot will become a pile of dirt until it is mostly covered by impervious surfaces. Expectedly, the plans for the proposed “units” neither match nor fit within the neighborhood nor are they affordable. Who stands for clear cutting like this? Apparently, it is those we have elected to represent us. It seems hard to believe that each and every one of our council members would approve clear-cutting. If not, then our representatives approve it by default. We asked the council to consider code provisions that would protect a percentage of significant and landmark trees. Unless there is a code change, clear-cutting will endure as the catastrophe that it is. Suppose an overwhelming majority of us oppose clear-cutting and all the hell that goes with it, are there those among you who will step forward and offer to represent us?
