Save The Bar/Restaurant Salon Industry NY covid

Save The Bar/Restaurant Salon Industry NY covid

The Issue

Governor Cuomo’s social distancing guidelines are not working and he is single handedly killing the bar restaurant and salon businesses. Many other stores and businesses are open and thriving with the only rules being followed are face masks and space between individuals on line. Meanwhile people bump into each other in the aisles and crowd next to each other. Bars restaurants and salons can open with strict guidelines to keep both staff and patrons safe. Examples are gloves, face masks, continued cleaning and sanitizing (which is common practice in the food industry unlike stores). People mostly sit idle in restaurants and salons and it can be quite easy to space seating apart and work at a smaller capacity until we open fully.  It is important to the service industry that we are safe and everyone that supports our business is safe but we can not lose our livelihoods to do so. People are gathering at house parties without any regulations. No ones wearing masks and no there are no guidelines on to how to keep their households clean. Whereas we are governed strictly and want to continue to do so. There must be a better plan. Please stop killing us Cuomo. We are dying and your are not helping financially. Will we be compensated for the permits we pay for to run our business? Landlords still want and deserve to be paid, PSEG is still billing us and ultimately we will pay what we owe with an additional charge. We owe our purveyors money and need to consider staff that are in dire need. Property tax. Sales tax. Our household bills and dependents. The lights are dimming and it’s difficult to hear the people who continue to make money and can pay their bills tell us that we can not. The servers the bartenders the hairstylists and the business owners are begging to go back to work and do what it takes to keep everyone safe. Businesses that have stayed open for takeout lose money every day but are scared to close as they fear it won’t be temporary.  Don’t plan on solving one issue in New York while you ignore the catastrophe this failing plan has created. People are afraid that they won’t have a job to return to let alone all the loss we are enduring every day through every extension. Our industry is dying and fighting our individual Battles to survive with varying circumstances due to Covid-19. Our government has tunnel vision on the pandemic and blinders on our economic collapse.
