The City of Fort Pierce, Florida opened a brand new skatepark in June of 2008 at The Fenn Center which is called the St. Lucie County Skate Park. Currently the park is open Mon - Fri 2- 5:30 pm and Sat - Sun 10 - 5:30 pm. Many of the locals get off of work at or around 6 so that literally gives them no time to skate. If you want to eat before skating you have no chance at all. For most of the skaters who work everyday, going to the skatepark is the only thing they look forward to. Now many of them will start trying to skate around the city or have to only go skate about a few times in the month just because they have to migrate to other skateparks that are far away. The St. Lucie skatepark is an outdoor park so in the day time it gets ridiculously hot out and the perfect time to skate is late afternoon and night. I recently talked to some of the parents and they are upset because they want their kids to be active and the only thing their kids want to do is skate. The only time most parents are able to take their child to the skatepark is at night after they have gotten out of work and had dinner. The skaters of Saint Lucie and their parents want their skatepark to stay open till 10, so everyone can still have a chance to skate! Please sign this petition to make the St. Lucie Skatepark close at 10pm. We will also need to fund lights to make this happen. Please help make this a reality for the people of this community. Why have a skatepark if only 20% of the community can use it? Do Basketball, Baseball and Soccer courts/fields close at 5:30? We only have one skatepark that is only usable 15% of the day.
