STOP Legalization of Dog Fighting in Las Vegas
The Issue
Legalized Dog Fighting in Las Vegas?
The Nevada Gaming Commission seeks to legalize dog fighting as new source of revenue for casinos, which are steadily losing money. Administrator with the Nevada Gaming Commission, Roger Kenny, stated in a press release, “If we regulate dog fighting, promote it as a sport, eventually people will come to accept it, and it will be as common as blackjack or prostitution.”
IDA and other animal rights organizations reject their proposal to legalize dog fighting, which will increase animal abuse, exploitation, and euthanasia of shelter animals. Dog trainer and television host Cesar Millan said, “This is the most inhumane act that I can think of. Dogs are our companions and are among the most intelligent creatures on Earth.”
Billionaire and chairman and CEO of Las Vegas Sands Corporation, Sheldon Adelson, said, “It would be a sin to let all that revenue just go to the dogs.” The rise of internet gambling is having a deep impact on the pockets of Adelson and other greedy casino CEO’s who want innocent companion animals to pay for their declining gambling revenue.
