Stop inhumane treatment of animals by enforcement of strict, deterrent punishment.

The Issue

Day after day, India is witnessing terrible acts of extreme cruelty, unleashed on innocent animals. These barbaric acts, need to be deterred, as the absence of any significant punishment encourages the inhumane perpetrators to continue shamelessly. Flinging dogs from terraces in Chennai, blinding pregnant strays in Mohali, and bashing of skulls and poisoning of dogs in Kerala, are heart-rending examples of savage attacks on harmless and innocent animals. The guilty required to be severely punished in a manner, which teaches them a lesson for life, and acts as a strong deterrent to other such cruel, shallow-minded fiends. Unless, as the so called 'higher-evolved' species, we learn to protect our brethren of the animal kingdom, we would have failed miserably in the basic tenets of civilised existence. Though, Article 51A(g) states that it is the FUNDAMENTAL DUTY OF EVERY CITIZEN OF INDIA TO HAVE COMPASSION FOR ALL LIVING CREATURES, our weak punishments fail to provide any such protection to our animals, and instead, often turn a blind eye to offenders. Under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, an offender can pay a ridiculously low sum of Rs 50, as bail money, only because the victim is a mute animal. THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE IMMEDIATELY.

I STRONGLY SUPPORT THE CREATION OF A LAW WHICH PUNISHES OFFENDERS WITH STRINGENT PUNISHMENT RANGING FROM 10 YEARS OF RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT, TO A MAXIMUM OF DEATH PENALTY, BASED ON THE BRUTALITY OF THE CRIME.

This, and only this, will work as a form of some protection for our innocent animals friends.

I humbly request all of you, to appeal to your conscience, and sign this petition, to truly make a difference.
