Rescuing HERMIT CRABS From ABUSIVE BEACH MARKET!! (SAD)​

PROPER Hermit Crab Tank Setup!

The best way for you to truly see is by going to one of these stores or by watching the first video linked above if you are unable to do that.

The problem is that hermit crabs are sold at stores along many beaches throughout America. Hermit crabs have a lot of special requirements and these beach stores do not provide the hermit crabs they are selling with anything that is proper nor do they sell them to customers with any proper information or materials.

Here is a list of some of the needs of hermit crabs:

• At least 70% humidity in the tank
• Freshwater AND saltwater in bowls that allow the crabs to fully submerge themselves in
• A variety diet (fruits, vegetables, meat, etc.) NOT the pellets from the beach store
• Temperature of at least 75 degrees Fahrenheit
• At least one hide, because during molting they are very vulnerable
• At least a 10g tank for 3 small hermit crabs (which most cages they are sold in aren't even a half gallon
• 3-5 natural shells in the tank of proper size (the shells at these beach stores are painted with toxic or nontoxic paint which chips and irritates the crabs)

With none of the above listed requirements and more met, it is heartbreaking. Without these things or even the correct humidity they will suffocate and die within a few months at most a year. Also, it has been found that a lot of these crabs are glued into their shells which does stress them out and make it impossible for them to change shells. How they make it into these stores is also a problem. Hermit crabs very rarely breed in captivity therefore they are caught from the wild and to make them "appealing" they are ripped out of their shells, or their shells are broken and then stuffed into these painted shells.
