Metro: Puppies died during raid to break up alleged rooster fighting ring By Nikki Bowers | nbowers@8newsnow.com Published 08/05 2016 05:12PMUpdated 08/05 2016 11:26PM LAS VEGAS Metro Police told 8 News NOW seven puppies died during a raid on a home Wednesday to break up an alleged rooster fighting ring. The puppies were in a family-owned kennel during Metro's raid. Jesse Roybal with Metro Police said the dogs were found dead when the family went to retrieve them. After the search warrant had been served, officers confiscated 550 roosters. Metro said detectives had their hands full wrangling a total of 10 dogs on the property. There no word on what will happen to the 550 roosters confiscated, but the Animal Foundation sent the following statement. The Animal Foundation has received a lot of inquiries regarding the final disposition of the approximately 600 fighting birds that entered our care on the evening of August 3. At this time, no decisions have been made as many outlets have reported. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is continuing to investigate the case. Once the investigation concludes, decisions about the outcomes of the fighting birds will be made by The Animal Foundation and local animal control officials.Historically, humane euthanasia has been the outcome of illegal fighting birds, but once the birds are cleared for final disposition, we will explore all viable and suitable options. We are looking into all options and are hopeful that some of the birds can be saved. We appreciate the community’s concern for these animals who have had a difficult life and entered our care through no fault of their own. No word on whether or not the dogs were inside or outside the home when the raid occurred.
