Petsmart, and many other pet suppliers, keep all of their animals (mainly hamsters, guinea pigs, ferrets, birds, and other small animals) in horrible conditions. None of the animals get proper veterinary care and a lot of animals die from infections and diseases. Animals are kept in tiny cages with wire bottoms, which hurts their feet and can cause injuries. Animals are sometimes forced to mate with each other. The buildings they are kept in are rarely cleaned, and animals die all the time. Sometimes the staff try to do surgery on the animals in these conditions. Nothing is sterilized, and often time the animal isn't properly anesthetized. Sometimes the animals are still awake during these procedures. They don't have the proper medical equipment either. With birds, their nails are often cut way too short. In an animal's claw there is a small vein, which is called a quick. The staff would cut the claw way too short. It's really painful to the animal and it makes them bleed a lot. Animals even resort to cannibalism sometimes. Even if they had an injury, nobody would come to help them. They were left to suffer and die. There are many animals who need our help. The pet trade will only continue without our help!
