On October 22 at 10:47am my sister sent me a text message to say that she was taking her dogs out and a cat that looked like Ralph or maybe one of the neighbors down the roads cat ran off her porch towards my backdoor and it looked like it had a stick hanging out of it and that it was dying, she said her bf looked for it and couldn’t find it at all. I was heading out of work for a lunch break a few minutes later thankfully. At that point I’m figuring he got out accidentally when I ran my son home from school sick around 9 AM and he walked in and didn’t latch the door closed all the way accidentally and probably just had a stick stuck to his long fur. I called my boyfriend in the way home to tell him what I was told. I get home and get out of my van and immediately start to look and call his name. Almost immediately I see him under a small pine tree and say hey buddy what are you doing out here and start to pull him out to take him inside and I see the blood and freak out and call my boyfriend back crying saying he’s dying I see blood like he was shot and then run inside to call work to say I’m running back up there ASAP and ask the vets not to leave on lunch (I work for a vet clinic thankfully) while grabbing a towel to wrap him up in. I run back out and scoop him up and see the arrow sticking out of him. I run back in to grab my keys and figure out how I’m driving back up there. As I get to my van my sisters boyfriend runs over and offers to drive me up there. I am crying and hysterical and accept. We get to work and I run him in and they immediately start to look at him and get started. I left and went outside cause I was so sick and felt like puking and to call my boyfriend and let him know what was going on into further details. I’m told he’s not stable and will die without surgery and that it’s going to be risky. My boyfriend wants to proceed with surgery and hopefully get a good outcome in the end. I went back home cause I’m no use there and my boyfriend was on his way back home and we were calling the sheriffs department out to report it as soon as he got home. once back home we look around for the other half of the arrow. It broke off somewhere and maybe if we found that we would know where he was hit or came from. During that time the vet called to let me know he kept going into cardiac arrest and asked for permission to stop doing CPR because it wasn’t the first time it happened and they weren’t able to proceed with surgery unless he was stable and unfortunately he wasn’t. I gave them ok to let him pass so he isn’t suffering anymore. Police show up and we make our report. Tell him the few things we think may have happened and he takes pictures and goes to look around and talk to a few neighbors and the farm through the field. After he leaves I find the other half to the arrow. It’s next to our garden archway where it looks like Ralph ran home and ran thru the archway and it broke off and he left blood and fur behind on the archway. He came back and got pictures of the arrow. Then left again and went to the vet clinic to get a statement from the veterinarian and take some pictures of Ralph. He was a very nice officer and really seemed to care which was very appreciated. After that I went and got my daughter from school cause she loved ralph so much (he’s had his own Instagram with her since we got him back in April.) and went to say our goodbyes to him. She is taking this very hard. She loved her cat so much and is heartbroken anyone could do this.
