Close Surabaya Zoo

The Issue

I was upset to learn of the suffering of the many animals at the Surabaya Zoo. International media outlets have reported the huge number of animal deaths that have occurred at the zoo, including Michael the lion, who was found hanging from cables used to open his cage door, and Rozek the tiger, whose digestive tract rotted away after being fed meat laced with formaldehyde.

The zoo clearly lacks the resources and knowledge to provide the animals there with adequate veterinary care and is undoubtedly damaging Indonesia's reputation. Will you please use your influence to ensure that this decrepit facility is closed and that the animals are transferred to sanctuaries or other facilities that are better able to care for them?

People around the world are watching and waiting for the Indonesian government to take action on this issue. Thank you for your time and consideration.
