Why this petition matters

Started by Alejandro Saucedo

1/11/2022 I lost in small claim court in Mulnomah county courthouse, in Portland Oregon. The dispute was about a $300 Maltipoo named Lu. Lu was gifted to me by An Ex-boyfriend as a puppy on October 2019. At the age of one, I registered Lu with my primary physician as my emotional support dog. My ex-boyfriend moved me from Palm Springs California to Portland Oregon. I don’t have many friends and I don’t have any family in the state of Oregon. I relied on my dog Lu as emotional support and companionship and family.

I want to petition that emotional support dogs are not property because that was the only reason why I lost her. The judge believed Lu should have been physically and emotionally mine, but her hands were tied. I didn’t win my case because I did not personally purchase Lu. I think it’s unfair that my mental health was  is compromised because of the law seeing animals as property (as objects).

I suffer from anxiety, depression, and loneliness. And none of these things were seen valid by Multnomah court. Separating an emotional support dog from its caregiver is very wrong and hurts both animal and caregiver. I want to stop the separation of emotional support dog from its caregiver based on purchase.
