The giant pacific octopus at the Camden aquarium in New Jersey in housed in a very small circular enclosure with few toys or stimulation. Octopuses are extremely intelligent creatures and become bored and depressed easily in captive environments not properly suited for their needs. Additionally they can even begin to self mutilate. At an aquarium with the capacity like the Camden aquarium, more careful and attentive measures should be taken to properly care for and house such an intelligent animal.
