We believe that there should be background checks for everyone who wants to own or adopt an animal. Seventy-one percent of domestic violence abusers also abuse pets. Background checks should be done before the animal/livestock is adopted. After the background check is done, anyone who has had a background of abuse or violence should go onto the same lists as pedophiles. Many animals domestic and farm are abused all around the U.S. and something has to be done about It! Background checks on people who want to own animals could lower the chance of those who are abused. Although it’s illegal in all 50 states, people still will abuse animals for their entertainment or for profit. If you are caught intentionally harming an animal and it is reported to authorities then you could have to serve up to 5 years imprisonment as well as a possible fine up to $5000.
