my 11 year old son has epilepsy he was diagnosed at age 4 and currently has on average 35/40 seizures a day. And a diagnosis of ADHD the two are commonly linked, we currently live in a 2nd floor property with two balconies & a lift that is constantly broken. I've had to lock all my windows as they all open inwards this is a seizure hazard and balconies ( one doesn't actually lock) to stop my son climbing and leaning. I also have a 2 year old and at time I have to mange to get both children safely down the stairs when our lift is broken, this is a real challenge if my child has a seizure while coming down those stairs it could potentially be fatal. He's also cramped into a bedroom with he's 13 year old autistic brother & 2 year old brother. We only have a bath so I have to supervise him in the bath, you can imagine at 11 years of age it’s not fair for him, he needs independence and privacy so we need a wet room too so he can shower safely without supervision. He recently had a seizure in the bedroom and knocked he's tooth out, so I applied to L&Q for a medical move. This is where the issues started, my sons medical team told them he needed a ground floor property, he's own bedroom & a wetroom. L&Q accepted this but they want an occupational therapist to come assess the property and write an official report stating the property can't be adapted and made into a ground floor property. This was fine, ridiculous but fine, so  I contacted OT and was told the wait for a assessment is 12 months, it's to risky to wait that long. So I begged L&Q to reconsider this policy and just use the medical team's report, they refused saying if they did that they'd have to move everyone with a disability. People with disabilities especially mobility issues & epilepsy shouldn't be living above the ground floor, a diagnosis & medical report should automatically grant them medical grounds to move if their property is not suitable/safe 

We are here to raise awareness about the living conditions of people with disabilities who should not be placed in properties above ground floor or that are unsuitable for their needs. This is a serious issue that affects a significant portion of our population, and it's time for us to take action.
According to recent studies, approximately 15% of the world's population lives with some form of disability. This means that millions of people face daily challenges that most of us can't even imagine. One such challenge is finding suitable housing that meets their needs.
Living in properties above ground floor can be difficult for people with disabilities, especially those who use wheelchairs or mobility aids or epilepsy. Stairs and narrow doorways can make it impossible for them to move around freely and independently, which can have a significant impact on their quality of life.
Furthermore, living on higher floors also poses safety risks during emergencies such as fires or earthquakes. In many cases, people with disabilities may not be able to evacuate quickly enough or may require assistance from others.

It's time for our governments and housing authorities to take this issue seriously and ensure that everyone has access to safe and suitable housing. We need more accessible homes built on the ground floor so that people with disabilities can live independently without facing unnecessary dangers.
