People against the St. Paul/ Elk Point Alberta Wind turbines Pihew Waciy project

The Issue

I am writing to inform the residents of the County of St. Paul about the proposed wind turbine project in this area.

Northland Power has worked in the shadows to infiltrate our lovely community for too long. St Paul is an agricultural area that produces crops and livestock, and we feed the world. Our agricultural productivity is the engine of county, communities, and families. People from all over come here for the peace and serenity of our natural environment. And it is all about to be destroyed.

Companies received overly generous incentives to build wind turbines from the government. Our tax dollars are going straight to building these turbines; we should all have a say. The proposed project would cover dozens of quarter sections of land stretching from Northwest of Kehiwin Lake to Elk Point. Yet only the few landowners know about it.

Around the world, industrial wind turbines have driven people away from homes due to their noise, flicker, and adverse health effects. Businesses flee or avoid communities that host wind, taking with it any chance of future growth. Homes and community businesses become devalued. It is not a product that supports rural economic development. It does not revitalize communities, it damages them. The wind industry does not create a lifecycle of economic development, nor does it create long-term employment.

The tourism industry will die. Who would want to go camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, ride the iron horse trail, with the sight and sound of turbines over head? A starry night is over taken by the flashing red lights on the turbines.

There are numerous examples of families that can’t bathe their children, cook food or wash clothes with their well water that was once clean and clear, because their wells were destroyed when the turbines came to town. These industrial turbines are built too close to homes. The health of local residents are put at risk as some experience heart palpitations, ear ringing, interrupted sleep from infra sound, and swooshing sounds from the turbines.

Industrial wind turbines are machinery and are not clean and green. It takes tons of steel and tons of concrete to build. It takes gallons of oil to keep them operational. Trucks running on fossil full deliver the components. They require more than just wind to spin. The blades cannot be recycled; decommissioned blades are dumped in landfills.

I once looked forward to the return of the Canadian geese, now I fear for them. Their migration path is smack in the middle of this unwanted project; they will be slaughtered.

Farmers, Friends, Family, there are real risks associated with the high returns being offered for wind turbine leases. Please understand the huge risks to the entire area before betting the farm! If we stand together with one voice, we can let this company know that populated areas where our farms, our homes, and our families reside, are not the place to build wind turbines.

Sign our petition and but a stop to these turbines before it's too late.
