Pensacola State College has announced plans to forcibly and suddenly close the campus daycare, which is operated by Campfire USA. This plan is set to take effect in less than a month, leaving desperate parents and the childcare professionals they have come to love and trust with nowhere to turn.

This is an outrage! All across the region, parents are facing a childcare shortage. Waitlists are long and prices are high. The campus childcare center has been an affordable and crucial resource for our entire community, especially for those parents who work for or attend school at PSC. Closing it, especially with such little notice, shows blatant disregard for these parents. While this decision primarily harms the parents, children, and workers who comprise the Campfire community, it also harms the larger community. If this long-standing center closes, every other day care in the city will have even longer waitlists, perpetuating our childcare crisis.
