Leichhardt Town Hall - No WestConnex meeting 16/6/2015 7pm

Thanks to our new supporters, we are now three-quarters of the way to the 89 signatures needed, which was previously enough to get Penny Sharpe to break a promise. Labor continues to be confused about WestConnex. Now with 3 councils, City of Sydney, Leichhardt and Marrickville, passing motions completely opposed to WestConnex, there is a growing chorus of Labor councillors speaking out. These include Linda Scott, Darcy Byrne, Linda Kelly, Simon Emsley, Frank Breen, Sam Iskandar, Chris Woods, Daniel Barbar and Jo Haylen. Ashfield labor councillors McKenna, Drury & Lofts are also expressing outrage over the project. Jo Haylen's rebellion is significant because she is also a state MP and presumably more bound by the state ALP position to support most of WestConnex. In this environment Penny Sharpe owes it to the people of Newtown to also rebel. On the other hand though we have 'rising star' Chris Minns MP completely missing the point and supporting the M5 east duplication at a community forum last week in Kingsgrove despite his constituents there being vehemently opposed. Lacklustre Luke Foley also seems to have lost the plot branding the CBD light rail as 'useless'. This raises the question of how 'no westconnex-ey' Jodi McKay will go at Tuesday night's No WestConnex meeting at Leichhardt Town Hall at 7pm (16/6/2015). Jodi is also considered future leadership material and she will have the opportunity to show that with an unambiguous position opposing all 3 stages of WestConnex. Otherwise she will face a barrage of criticism from the expected hundreds of angry residents, experts and speakers including John Mant, Paul Davies and Greens Dr Mehreen Faruqi. Penny has been invited to the meeting but yet to respond. By standing together with Haylen & McKay in full opposition to WestConnex, they stand a chance of bringing the rest of the NSW ALP around too and stem the bleeding of voters to the Greens. https://twitter.com/achuter/status/606963784079441920
