Dear Supporters,
Thanks for signing this petition.
As you would be aware, Penny Sharpe said she would not return to the upper house if she didn't win the seat of Newtown:
http://www.starobserver.com.au/news/local-news/new-south-wales-news/labors-penny-sharpe-no-plan-b-if-i-dont-win-newtown-seat-in-nsw-elections/134144
It is quite clear that a big part of why she lost was her and the ALP's stand on westconnex. Penny and the ALP supported 2 of the 3 stages. Each stage costs about a third of the $15 billion total so it is fair to say they support two-thirds of it. Jenny Leong of the Greens won Newtown with a clear policy to oppose all of it.
After Penny lost, a change.org petition was started by her supporters to get her to return. It reached a grand total of 89 signatures and before we knew it, she returned.

Now personally, I don't have anything against Penny, she seems like a pretty good candidate to me. But honestly, if it is that easy to persuade her to change tack on this, then in fairness, she should be willing to change tack on the main issue that lost her the seat in the first place, westconnex. That would be the honorable thing to do.
That is, if we can muster the same level of public persuasion. That figure is 89 signatures.
We are halfway there.
If each of you can get one other person to sign, we will make it. Please share this petition via email, facebook, twitter, google+ or whatever your social medium of choice.

Another development that has just come to hand is Labor City of Sydney Councillor Linda Scott's clear stand on westconnex. Previously in February, she supported a motion expressing 'serious concern' about it. But now at the last council meeting she seconded the motion to 'oppose' it. Just to be absolutely sure, I emailed her about it and her response today was:
'My position is different from the State Labor Parliamentary caucus - I oppose Westconnex.'
This is refreshing to hear and this should make it easier for Penny to break ranks too.
Again, thanks for your support, and if you have any suggestions or comments please get in touch via achuter@gmail.com or twitter @achuter.
Regards,
Andrew Chuter
