Pennsylvania State Legislature: Pass Chelsea's Law in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania State Legislature: Pass Chelsea's Law in Pennsylvania
The Issue
California passed Chelsea's Law in August 2010 in response to the rape and murder of 17-year-old Chelsea King.
The provisions of Chelsea’s Law include a “new one-strike life without parole penalty for those sexual predators who commit the most heinous violent sex crimes against a child” as well as increased sentencing for all minor-related sex crimes that include violence, longer parole time with GPS tracking for those involved in crimes involving minors, changes to Megan’s Law that will better inform the public of the risk of danger associated with each offender, additional resources and funding for victims, and numerous evaluation tests for offenders.
Since it's passage, 22 defendants just from the San Diego area have been charged under Chelsea's Law. The law is currently being presented and considered in Ohio, Illinois, and Texas. It's time to spread Chelsea's Light to across the country to protect the children of Pennsylvania.
