Welcome to Dump Turzai, a grassroots organization working to replace Rep. Mike Turzai as Speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives with another member of the House selected by the 203 state Representatives. Dump Turzai is a non-partisan, educational campaign.

Why is the position of Speaker so important? 

• The Speaker has the power to stop any bill by refusing to allow the members to vote on it.
• The Speaker has the power to allow votes on any bill he or she chooses

What has Rep. Turzai done as Speaker?

• Prevented the members from voting on property tax reform
• Blocked action on medical marijuana for many years
• Insulted mothers of sick children
• Helped push through a red light camera expansion bill without a hearing while Pennsylvanians slept
• Blocked action on LGBT anti-discrimination
• Blocked action on a natural gas severance tax
• Blocked raising the minimum wage

After each election, the 203 state representatives vote for whom they want to be Speaker. A majority of 102 votes cast elects a Speaker of the House. Our goal is to convince 102 state Representatives to choose a new Speaker to replace Turzai by January 2017.
