Lane Splitting: A motorcyclist travels between, shares, and passes the lanes of moving or stationary traffic.

           Lane filtering and/or splitting reduces injury and loss of human life for riders. You may wonder, "How is moving through traffic any safer and what if a driver doesn't notice and hits the motorcyclist?" Studies found that motorcyclists filtering or splitting when an accident occurred received milder injuries than those rear-ended. A motorcycle that can remain moving is not only safer but opens up a car length taken in traffic. It is of important note that while you may feel frustrated by a motorcyclist cutting in line it remains a safer option and represents one less car slowing you down. 

            One can speculate that with the legalization of lane filtering and/or splitting, more people will invest in motorcycles, reducing traffic even further.
