Modify animals to not be considered property.

The Issue

Animals are not material possessions. During a separation or divorce animals are sometimes taken to shelters and even put to sleep by the angry or spiteful person involved with the relationship. Animals should not be considered material possession because they are a living breathing unit as much as we are. I know first hand how it feels to be in this situation and have an angry spouse decide the fate of an animal over a divorce. The animal has nothing to do with the relationship and I believe that there are other people who have suffered from this. Too many lives are taken in vain because there are no laws put in place to protect individuals or the animals themselves. Let me ask you this, if you and your husband were getting divorced and you were angry at him would you take your child to a shelter? I didn't think so. In my situation the damage is irreversible as the cat was put to sleep two days after he was dropped off, I was never notified despite multiple verbal agreements. Sign this and let's make a difference for these animals who have no hope and are being abused and neglected as if they are just "objects" to be given away.
