Change the Speed Limit on Road 413 Between Summit Square and George School

Change the Speed Limit on Road 413 Between Summit Square and George School
The Issue
On Tuesday, October 29, on their way back from the Summit shopping center, two George School students were struck and severely injured by a motor vehicle driving off of the Newtown bypass. Currently, the speed limit in front of George School on Road 413 is 45 mph. As a boarding and day school George School is active all day long, it is quite concerning that our attempts to lower the speed limit and increase the visibility of the crosswalk, to make it safer for our students and families, have been met with opposition.
The main goal of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is to regulate and develop the state’s transportation systems and infrastructure. In their annual report, PennDOT stated that its mission is “To provide a sustainable transportation system and quality services that are embraced by our communities and add value to our customers. Safety – We promote the delivery of a safe work environment and a safe transportation system in our products and services.” Being an office established for the well-being of its constituents, it’s top priority should be keeping the people who use these services safely, but when issues pertaining to its services are left unaddressed, it’s purpose is futile.
Please join us in our efforts to make the Newtown area safer for not only the George School community but all those nearby whose lives are impacted! In order to achieve this, we believe that the speed limit on road 413 is changed from 45 mph to 25 mph. If you sign this petition you are signaling that you are committed to keeping our children and community safe. Together we can make sure a severe accident like this does not happen again.
We call on the Pennsylvania DOT to change the speed limit on Road 413 to 25mph!
