Preserve and Restore Headquarters Road Bridge in Bucks County

The Issue

The Headquarters Road Bridge has stood for over 200 years, and one of the last standing pier to pier stone bridge in the United States. It has been closed since 2011, and PennDOT wants to tear it down and replace it with a large, obtrusive two-lane bridge, devastating the landscape and erasing over 200 years of history from the cultural landscape of the Tinicum Creek. This bridge can be restored and continue to serve its community if done properly.

An engineer with extensive experience working on the restoration and repair of historic masonry has inspected the bridge, and determined that it can be restored and reopened to traffic as it had previously been prior to the closing in 2011. This video features that engineer discussing the bridge, the history of the bridge and the battle for it's restoration. https://vimeo.com/508968741

This article details the steps that have been taken to save the bridge. https://www.phillyvoice.com/group-challenges-penndot-plan-to-destroy-historic-bridge/

There are concerned citizens who have spoken up, but we need more people to advocate for the preservation of the Headquarters Road Bridge. Please sign and share this petition, reach out to the Tinicum Board of Supervisors, PennDOT, and the Bucks County Commissioners to express your desire to keep this piece of Bucks County's history alive.
