Injustice is rampant in our country, however, the grossest miscarriage of justice happens daily against the Transgender community. As of right now the life expectancy of a Transgender person is 31 years old compared to the average 79 years old in the United States. Our society dehumanizes Transgender people so often that people think of them as sub-human. As we progress as a society and we leave behind old paradigms, we need to address all injustices. If we’re aiming for equality for all we need to own up and fight for Trans rights. As a person who plans on transitioning I fear for my safety, I fear for my future, I fear for my friends, and the paranoia/anxiety surrounding me transitioning is crippling. Most people do not even understand what being Transgender is, for society has already implanted preconceived notions. Thus instead of understanding us they shun us, ostracize us, and are afraid to be with us. I believe people simply do not understand and educating them on what it exactly means to be Transgender will aid in both protection and support. This will also help lengthen our lives so we can live without fear, but with love.
