The Labour group on Pendle Borough Council have forced through a proposal to demolish the Cemetery Lodge that resides within the boundaries of Walton Lane Cemetery in Nelson, flying in the face of public opinion the Leader of Pendle Borough Council and Leader of Pendle Labour Mohammad Iqbal said “The need for burial plots is in great demand and therefore the Lodge should be knocked down to make way for this demand.”
 
Walton Lane Cemetery Lodge is an iconic feature of Marsden and is recognised throughout Nelson and Pendle, this building should NOT be demolished to make way for a short term solution to a growing problem, the building should be protected as it is steeped in local history.
