Bring Back % Marks at PDSB for High School Students - No More Levels!
The Issue
The Peel District School Board has decided to give high school students levelled marks instead of percentage points. These levels encapsulate multiple percentile points and do not give students an accurate view of the scores they receive. Percentage points are crucial as the difference between our ability to fully understand our grade, as an 84% and 85% is the difference to be able to apply to a university program for example.
This change was made without consulting the students in which it effects; instead, it was the choice of individuals who are no longer in high school. This ridiculous change will significantly affect the understanding students have on their marks as well as our ability to set personal and post-secondary bound mark goals in an accurate and meaningful way.
It is my sincere hope that the board will take into consideration the consequences of their actions and revert this change at the request of us, the high school students of the PDSB.
