Pay People to Recover – Turn Rehab into Education + Income”

Pay People to Recover – Turn Rehab into Education + Income”
The Issue
The Problem:
Addiction destroys lives, families, and communities — but our current recovery system leaves too many people set up for failure. Most programs offer treatment but not the financial stability or real-life skills people need to stay clean. Without income, housing, or purpose, relapse rates remain tragically high.
The Solution – Recovery Scholars Program:
We propose a new model that treats recovery like higher education:
Learn: Participants take courses on addiction science, relapse prevention, mental health, and life skills.
Earn: Participants receive a living grant or stipend (similar to a Pell Grant) for staying clean, attending classes, and meeting program milestones.
Build: Graduates can transition into jobs, trades, or college, and some will train as peer mentors to help others.
This isn’t just rehab—it’s education, income, and a fresh start.
Why It Works:
✅ Removes the financial stress that drives relapse
✅ Gives participants knowledge and tools for lifelong recovery
✅ Creates a positive cycle where recovered individuals become leaders
✅ Reduces crime, homelessness, and healthcare costs for communities
Our Demand:
We call on local, state, and federal leaders to fund and pilot the Recovery Scholars Program to give people the resources they need to stay clean and rebuild their lives.
📢 Sign this petition if you believe recovery should mean opportunity, not punishment.
Together, we can turn recovery into empowerment.
