Pawsitive Change: Advocate for Stray Animal Rescue and Adoption in Parañaque City

The Issue

Every day as we walk home from school, we witness an unsettling sight that breaks our hearts - stray animals wandering the streets of Parañaque City. These animals are often injured, abandoned and worst of all, some are killed, left by the pavements to rot. As an animal lover and pet owner ourselves, it is deeply distressing to see these creatures suffer without proper care.

Our city is home to thousands of stray animals who live in harsh. The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) estimates that there are approximately 12 million stray dogs and cats across the country on just the year of 2019 (PAWS, 2019). In Metro Manila where we live, the number is estimated at around 2.5 million on the same year. These figures do not even account for the countless stray cats and other animals that roam our streets.

It's time we take action for these voiceless beings who share our city with us.

We propose to establish a rescue and adoption advocacy program called Pawsitive Change for these strays starting from our school campus in Parañaque Science High School. By reaching out and tying up to other NGOs, LGUs, and the Private sector that advocates for the same cause, we vouch to do the following:

  • Promote responsible pet ownership through encouraging responsible pet ownership practices, including proper care, training, and socialization.
  • Support animal shelters and rescue organizations by providing financial and volunteer support to organizations dedicated to rescuing and caring for stray animals.
  • Rescue strays that need saving or are injured but are not being medically treated  by bringing them to the veterinary care facility as suggested by partner organizations.
  • Promote adoption by encouraging the public to adopt stray animals from shelters and rescue organizations instead of purchasing from breeders.

If our school-level program succeeds, we are planning to extend this advocacy citywide. This initiative will not only provide shelter and immediate aid to suffering strays but also educate students about responsible pet ownership and compassion towards all living beings.

By signing this petition you're supporting a more humane treatment of stray animals in Parañaque City - giving them a chance at life they deserve while fostering empathy among our community members.

Please sign this petition today! Let's make Parañaque City safer for all its inhabitants – humans and animals alike.
