Juliana Denise Cailles started this petition to PAWS (Philippine Animal Welfare Society) and

Here in the Philippines, Horse Racing has been a part of our history. What we don't know is that the joy that we get from this is the opposite for the horses. Everytime a horse loses, they die. They are shipped to places just to be slaughtered. How about the gunshot at the start of every game. Animals don't find it pleasing, do you think it will put the horses at ease? Will whipping the horses do them any good? They run faster because they are hurt and they want it to be over. When they fall, they don't even have a check-up. People feed them drugs to do good on the races, but they don't even take care of them.

Majority of people are ignorant to the cruelty of horses. Nearly 500 Thoroughbred racehorses died in the Philippines in 2018. Most of these deaths are the result of limb injuries, followed by respiratory, digestive, and multiorgan system disorders. Be aware that horses don't behave as good as you always thought. Some caused harm to the riders or jockeys and gave them a lifetime regret. Thankfully, no one in the country has died because of it.

What are the Consequences of Horse Racing?

  • It is hard for the horses' bodies.
  • Horses are drugged and it destroys their system.
  • Jockeys get serious injuries.
  • Horses don't get to have freedom.
  • Horses die if they don't win.
  • It is a type of gambling, which causes people to get addicted up to the point where they lose money.

The philosophical view that is present in this petition is the environmental ethics. Everything that is present in our world, humans or non-humans including animals, have intrinsic value and should be preserved and taken care of. Because man has the responsibility of keeping the planet safe, secure, and beneficial to all of us since it has been entrusted to us by God.

If this petition is granted, then:

  • Horses will be preserved and will do us more good if we take care of them.
  • No more horses will be tormented, abused, and slaughtered.
  • No money will be lost, no addiction, and no illegal drugs will be consumed, and no bad instances will happen.
  • No more injuries for riders.

How can horse racing stop? the PAWS (Philippine Animal Welfare Society) must consider the risks of engaging in this sport. How much damage and harm it can give to the rider, and even to the audience. They should also consider the horses. Since we use them to our advantage, let's give it back with what they deserve. The Senate of the Philippines should later approve this, so the horse racing can be completely banned.

They have been used by humans in many different ways for travel, work, food, and pleasure so let's not take advantage of this. We have to be aware of our actions so that we won't face the consequences the hard way. We don't know what will happen, one day they might all be extinct and we didn't even take action. Why not start today?
