Paw Power Movement
The Issue
Recent tragic incidents such as the violent death of Kilua and the ear mutilation of Luna and Bonbon underscore the severe cruelty animals endure in the Philippines, emphasizing the urgent need for attention to this crisis, particularly in Laguna where various shelters and organizations are dedicated to our shared goal.
Animal abuse causes physical, emotional, and psychological suffering, with effects that can last years. Mistreatment can take many forms, ranging from neglect and abuse to outright torture, and it occurs in a variety of situations, including homes and commercial industries. Furthermore, the owners of abused animals may suffer from mental health concerns such as despair and anxiety as a result of losing someone they care about.
Not alone are animals at peril; research supports the conclusion that there is a direct link between acts of animal cruelty and aggression against people. This covers abuse of children, marital violence, elder abuse, and other forms of violence. According to study, if a child is harsh to animals, it may indicate that the child has suffered severe abuse or neglect. Children who witness animal mistreatment are more likely to become abusers themselves (Animal Legal Defense Fund, 2022). As a result, the safety of both humans and animals is at risk, as is the reputation of the community or even the country in which we live.
Given recent occurrences, it is evident that innocent lives are at risk, motivating us to take proactive efforts to prevent further harm and foster an atmosphere in which animals are treated with the respect and care they deserve. Through advocacy, we educate, combat cruelty, promote responsible pet ownership, offer sanctuary for vulnerable animals—especially strays—spread awareness, and support animal organizations. Driven by compassion and the belief in every life's value, we aim to end silent animal suffering. Join us to save lives and build a better community.
