My son has fallen one too many times on the rough ground of the fenced-in parking lot/playground at Kennedy Elementary Center in Nanticoke School District. There have been instances where his falls were so severe that they almost required stitches. Also, walking across the parking lot during rain is a complete disaster, soaking kids shoes before they go into school for the day. 

The current condition of the parking lot and playground is hazardous, posing a safety threat to not only my child but also to countless others who play, learn, and grow there every day. Rough, uneven surfaces increase the risk of tripping, falling, and sustaining serious injuries—an outcome that is totally preventable with proper paving.

Furthermore, a paved playground offers numerous benefits beyond safety. It provides a clean, even surface for children to engage in various physical activities, promotes increased usage for outdoor classes, and contributes to an overall healthier and more active student body. Schools should be safe havens, places where children can explore the world without fear of injury merely from everyday play.

Research consistently demonstrates that well-planned school infrastructure contributes significantly to the overall development and well-being of students. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), enhanced facilities encourage physical activity, which is key to both physical and mental health for children across all age groups.

We are calling on the Nanticoke School District and local authorities to prioritize the safety and well-being of our children by paving the playground at Kennedy Elementary Center. It's a straightforward, effective solution that ensures all students have a safe area to play and learn.
