The Issue

As residents of Linden Park in Tucson, AZ, We are deeply concerned about the current state of East 15th Street. This neglected road has become a hazard for both drivers and cyclists alike. The deteriorating condition of the street is not only an eyesore but also poses significant financial and safety risks to our community.

We need 100 signatures, please make sure your entire East 15th Street household signs.

We have experienced the consequences of this neglect firsthand. On numerous occasions, chunks of the road have fallen apart and scattered across the street. This not only damages vehicles but also endangers drivers who may swerve to avoid these hazards. It is unacceptable that taxpayers are forced to bear the financial burden caused by this negligence by way of costly vehicle repairs, and personal injury.

This has become a human rights matter when Tucson and TDOT alike are prioritizing affluent neighborhoods paving and neglecting areas with higher traffic and density. Colonia Solana and Historic Catalina Vista both have less density and traffic yet have pristine paved roads. All Tucson Taxpayers need to be treated equally, fairly, and humanely.

Furthermore, cyclists in our community face daily dangers while navigating East 15th Street. With potholes and uneven surfaces present throughout the road, bicyclists are at high risk of accidents and injuries. As a city that promotes active transportation and environmental sustainability, it is crucial that we provide safe infrastructure for all road users.

To address these pressing concerns and ensure the safety and well-being of our community members in Linden Park and beyond, we urge local authorities to take immediate action to pave East 15th Street in Tucson.

By repaving this vital roadway:

1) Safety will be enhanced: A smooth surface will reduce accidents caused by sudden swerving or loss of control due to road defects.
2) Vehicle maintenance costs will decrease: Potholes can cause significant damage to vehicles' tires, suspension systems, and alignments. By eliminating these hazards through proper paving maintenance, taxpayers will save money on repairs.
3) Bicyclist safety will improve: A well-paved road with designated bike lanes or shared-use paths will encourage more people to choose cycling as a mode of transportation while ensuring their safety.

We believe that investing in the improvement of East 15th Street is crucial for the well-being and prosperity of our community. We call upon local authorities, including the Tucson Department of Transportation and City Council, to allocate necessary resources towards repaving this neglected road promptly-dare we see immediately.

Together, let's make East 15th Street safe for all residents, improve transportation options, and enhance the quality of life in Linden Park and beyond. Sign this petition today to show your support for a safer and more sustainable Tucson!

Thank you for joining us in this important cause.
