The Issue

WE HAVE PAUSED THIS PETITION FOR NOW, PLEASE CHECK BACK SOON!

My family farm, located less than 1/4 mile from the proposed power plant site on the Linn/Benton county line in eastern Iowa, stands as a testament to generations of hard work and dedication. For over 150 years, we have nurtured this land with love, and for 3 generations, we have embarked on an inspiring journey to restore parts of it back into its natural prairie habitat. This ambitious project aims to give back to the land, reviving ecosystems, and ensuring future generations can witness Iowa's natural beauty.

However, this cherished dream is under threat. Alliant Energy is planning to construct a power plant very near our beloved farm, prioritizing corporate giants like Google and Meta over the well-being of local residents. The new facility promises little to no benefit for the local community or the people of Iowa. Instead, it endangers not only my family's farm restoration project but also the health and sustainability of the entire region.  Alliant will gain the profits while the surrounding communities will bear the costs.

The proposed power plant is poised to bring numerous negative repercussions. Key among them is the environmental degradation of the area, with increased emissions impacting air quality, affecting the health of residents, and disturbing delicate ecosystems.  Economic impacts to Alliant customers is also very possible in the form of rate hikes. As well as natural gas and other utilities like water increasing as a result of increased demand from the large power plant.  Furthermore, the construction and operation of such a facility could significantly lower local property values, making it an even greater burden for families living nearby. In a time when sustainable practices and renewable energies should be at the forefront of our development agenda, the planned power plant represents a step backward.

Eastern Iowa prides itself on its close-knit community and its commitment to preserving the land that sustains us. Allowing this development is not just a challenge to the environment; it's a challenge to our community's values. We must stand together to demand that Alliant Energy reconsider this plan, review alternative locations, or explore cleaner, community-beneficial energy solutions that align with Iowa's health, environmental, and community goals.

We reach out to you to join our cause, to protect the heart and soul of eastern Iowa. By coming together, we have the power to influence significant change and ensure that our land is used responsibly, caring for both existing traditions and future aspirations.

Please sign this petition to stop Alliant Energy's power plant development on the Linn/Benton county line and help us safeguard our community, our environment, and our heritage. Your support is crucial.
