Town Board Approves Construction Bid 4-1
The town board has made it pretty clear that the desires of it's constituents, the opinions of it's own volunteer board members, and their own standards can be disregarded as if some sort of mandate is given by electing them into office. I repeatedly ask myself "who benefits" from this plan that was produced through a hijacked process that deliberately withheld information and discarded calls for transparency and inclusion for over two years. The answer gets more and more nefarious. The town has denied freedom of information requests regarding the processes related to complying with SEQRA (State Environmental Quality Review Act). Phasing the project may be a way to avoid scrutiny from the DEC and Monroe County by reducing the size of the project indicated by neither agency having any records from the town. The designers own admission regarding this project getting out of hand questions potential violations of professional ethical standards. The rushed time-line when nearly all of the parking spaces remain available today for use by the town staff should be adequate since all of the amenities of the playground and pool have been closed for over 2 years.
Thank you all for your continued support. I encourage you to share this petition and talk to your public officials and demand that they do better. An article in the Beacon has summed up this process from all viewpoints. TheRoots of Brightons Town Hall Dispute
