Pause Project Stratos Now Box Elder Deserves Answers

Pause Project Stratos Now Box Elder Deserves Answers
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents and concerned citizens of Utah, respectfully demand that all further action on the proposed Stratos hyperscale data center project in Box Elder County be paused before implementation, construction preparation, permitting, water-right changes, tax incentives, or other irreversible commitments move forward.
This petition is the public support stage before the official referendum process. It is meant to show early community support, organize residents, and demonstrate that Box Elder County wants transparency, legal review, and a pause before irreversible action moves forward.
Box Elder County has already approved consent for MIDA to create the Stratos project area, making this moment urgent. Residents are no longer only asking whether the project should be approved; we are asking whether further action should be paused before the public is locked into consequences it still does not fully understand.
Residents have raised serious concerns about water use, Great Salt Lake impact, aquifers, natural gas power generation, emissions, public health, tax incentives, local control, and whether the public had a meaningful opportunity to be heard.
A related water rights change application has also raised concern because it involves converting water from agricultural use to industrial use for a natural gas power plant and data center. That alone shows why independent water and environmental review should happen before further commitments move forward.
We are not asking for chaos. We are asking for time, records, transparency, and independent review before decisions are made that may permanently affect our land, water, air, and future.
We respectfully demand:
- A pause on further implementation of the Stratos data center project.
- Independent water, environmental, energy, emissions, and public-health reviews.
- Public release of all relevant agreements, tax incentive documents, water documents, power plans, environmental studies, and communications involving Box Elder County, MIDA, Stratos, O’Leary Digital, WestGen, and state officials.
- A public meeting where residents can ask questions and receive direct answers before further project action proceeds.
- No further water-right changes, construction preparation, tax incentives, permitting, or irreversible commitments until the public has had a fair chance to review the facts.
By signing this petition, we are showing public support for a lawful pause, public transparency, and responsible review before Box Elder County is locked into a project residents still do not fully understand.
This is about protecting Box Elder County, Tremonton, the Great Salt Lake, Utah’s air, Utah’s water, and the right of local communities to be heard before the future is decided for them.
Personal Story:
Box Elder County is not just a place on a map. This is where my children are being raised. this is where I was born, This is where my neighbors live. This is the community I believe I have a duty to protect, support, and stand beside. I will always do my part to care for my children, my neighbors, and my community.
That is why I believe residents deserve transparency, answers, and a fair opportunity to understand Project Stratos before irreversible decisions are made.
